Sometimes offering engagement photography is met with a response of "but we've already had the party". Whilst photographing parties can be a fun way to spend a Saturday night, engagement photography is actually photographing the future bride and groom as a happy couple, away from the sparkle of wedding preparations.
Outdoors & casual is the ticket. Shooting at a location important to the couple is a good option, however if it's a location within reasonable reach of a wedding day party, best leave that location until the wedding. It makes for a stronger narrative with the wedding photos.
Locations for good outdoor candid photography can range from any field in the Dandenong's, a street sushi bar in the city to a lonely train station in the 'burbs. The point however is that the couple is the subject and the location serves as nothing more than a hardy surface for the love narrative to be inscribed.
